How to light your Jindara wood heater
Jindara wood heaters are simple and easy to use, making them a breeze to light and maintain. Here, we break down nine steps for lighting your wood heater efficiently and safely in your home.
Check the air slide. Make sure the air slide on the front of your wood heater is in the high or open position.
Add firelighters. Place the firelighters inside your wood heater at approximately 10-15 cm apart, depending on the size of your wood heater.
Place the kindling. Add softwood kindling on top of your firelighters in a criss-cross pattern. We recommend softwood kindling for a quicker, stronger burn.
Light the fire. Use a match or lighter to light the fire. Close the door when the kindling is ablaze, but don’t latch it yet — leaving the door unlatched at first will allow extra air to get into your firebox, creating a cleaner burn.
Let the fire burn for 5-10 minutes with the door unlatched. Don’t leave the unlatched door unattended, as this can create a fire risk.
Add small pieces of hardwood. Load your firewood in a criss-cross pattern on top of your softwood.
Latch the door. Keep the fire burning with the door latched for 30 minutes.
Add large pieces of hardwood. Load larger pieces of hardwood into your wood heater and close and latch the door.
Lower the air slide. After 45 minutes, the air slide can now be lowered to your desired comfort level. You can also turn on your wood heater’s fan to improve heat circulation.

FAQs about Jindara wood heater parts
How often should I clean the flue on my wood heater?Your wood heater’s flue should be cleaned at least once a year. This helps your heater remain as efficient as possible and reduces the risk of flue fires and downdraughts occurring.
Check out our instructions for cleaning your Jindara wood heater’s flue.
1. Remove the baffle plate. Delicately remove your wood heater’s baffle plate and leave it on a level surface. Then, close the door of your wood heater.
2. Inset your brush into the chimney. After removing the cowl from the chimney on your rooftop, insert your flue brush into the chimney and push it until you feel resistance. Remove the brush and repeat this process.
3. Scrub your chimney. Your flue brush will gradually start to reach deeper into your chimney as you continue the process in step two. Any soot and creosote will fall into your wood heater’s firebox, clearing the flue.
4. Return the cowl and baffle plate. Place the cowl and baffle plate back in their original spots on your chimney and wood heater.
5. Clean your firebox. Remove the soot and creosote from your firebox.
